"Il pastor fido"

Giovanni Battista Guarini (1538 – 1612) was an Italian poet, dramatist, and diplomat. His "Occhi miei che vedeste", set to music by Benedetto Ferrari, is contained in the latter's Musiche Varie.[1]

He is most famous for his libretto "il pastor fido", which was style-defining at the time it was published.[2]
