Andrea Bernasconi (* 1706 in Marseille; † 24 January 1784 in Munich) was an Italian composer.

Andrea Bernasconi’ father was a French officer of Italian descent who settled as a merchant in Parma. Little is known about Andrea Bernasconi's artistic training. From 1744 (16 May) to 1753 (21 September) he worked as maestro di coro at the Ospedale della Pietà in Venice.[1] In 1747 he married Maria Josepha Wagele (1722-1762), the widow of a ducal Württemberg valet de chambre. In 1753 he came to Munich and became deputy bandmaster to Elector Maximilian III. He was music teacher to the Elector and later also to his sisters. Wilhelmine of Bayreuth commissioned him to compose the festive opera L'Huomo for her brother Frederick the Great's visit to Bayreuth in June 1754.[2] In September 1755, Bernasconi took over the position of Kapellmeister from Giovanni Porta, having previously been appointed Electoral Councillor. From 1772, Bernasconi was only responsible for church music at court. After his death in 1784, Franz Paul Grua and Georg Joseph Vogler took over the post on an equal footing.

Andrea Bernasconi is generally regarded as a conservative representative of the so-called Neapolitan school; his elaborations of orchestral accompaniments remain noteworthy.

His extensive output of sacred vocal music was destroyed in the All Saints' Court Church fire in 1944. These included 34 masses, 6 credos, 2 requiems, 17 litanies, 35 vesper psalms, 3 Te Deum, 6 Stabat mater and numerous other works for church use. Bernasconi's stepdaughter Antonia Bernasconi (née Wagele 1741-1803) was a well-known buffo singer who achieved her breakthrough in 1767 at the premiere of Christoph Willibald Gluck's opera Alceste in Vienna.
