On voit ses ombres dormantes S'éclairer, à tous moments, Autant par les fleurs charmantes Que par les astres charmants. Moi, ma Nuit au sombre voile N'a, pour charme et pour clarté, Qu'une fleur et qu'une étoile : Mon amour et ta beauté !

Night, over the great mystery, Cracks open her blue jewellery boxes: As many flowers on earth As many stars in the skies! We can see her dormant shadows being brightened again and again By the enchanting flowers As well as by the enchanting stars. Me, my darkly veiled Night Has, for enchantment and brightness, Only one flower and one star: My love and your beauty!

Die Nacht, über das große Geheimnis, Öffnet ihre blauen Schatullen einen Spalt: So viele Blumen auf der Erde Wie Sterne am Himmel!
