La Giuditta is an oratorio by Benedetto Marcello. The CD booklet considers the author of the libretto anonymous; English Wikipedia has it that Benedetto Marcello was also the author of the libretto.[2] The piece premiered in 1710.[1].
Synopsis
Judith and her uneven fight against Holofernes was a popular topic for oratorios of the 18th century. Based on the biblical Book of Judith, the story sketches God's deliverance of the Jewish people by the hands of Judith.[3]
