From Leda, wife of Tindar, king of Sparta, was born Helen, so rare in beauty that she became admired by the whole world, and gained fame with the fires of Troy, which were started because of her. Menelaus, the nephew of Atreus, the famous king of Crete, took a fancy to her and became her husband. But first, she was kidnapped by Theseus, in the company of Pirithous, them having made a vow to marry only the daughters of Jupiter. For this reason, Theseus abducted Helen, of whom it was said that she had been begotten by Jupiter in the guise of a Swan. In order to achieve this rapture, Theseus abandoned Hippolyta, sister of Antiope, Queen of the Amazons, who had been given to him by Hercules, and when he fought with him against the Amazons, he defeated them and took Hippolyta prisoner.

In this state of affairs, the opera begins: in which are described the loves of Menelaus, who, in order to serve Helen, pretends to be an Amazon famous in the fight: the kidnapping of Helen by Theseus is told, and it is imagined that Pirithous, having seen Menelaus in the dress of a woman fighting with Helen, believing him to be a woman, falls in love with him, and kidnaps him, forgetting that he had intended not to marry, except with the daughters of Jupiter.
Together we witness the love of Hippolyta, who goes looking for Theseus and finds that he has kidnapped Helen so that she is agitated by anger, and conflicted by love.

Finally, Castor and Pollux, brothers of Helen, arrive to free her from the hands of Theseus. Hippolyta is discovered: Theseus is won over by her affections: and makes her his wife: and Menelaus, having revealed himself, remains Helena's husband, and thus among these events concludes the work intertwined with various events.
