Federico García Lorca (June 5, 1898 – August 18, 1936) was a Spanish poet, playwright and prose writer. Ascribed to the generation of 27, he was the most influential and popular poet of Spanish literature of the twentieth century and as a playwright is considered one of the peaks of Spanish theatre of the twentieth century. He was assassinated by the rebel side one month after the coup d'état that provoked the beginning of the Spanish Civil War.
