Michel Lambert (* 1610 in Champigny-sur-Veude; † June 29, 1696 in Paris) was a French singer and composer.
His singing abilities were already recognized during his time as a choirboy in the chapel of Duke Gaston d'Orléans. Lambert went to Paris, where he was trained as a singer by the king's first valet de chambre, Pierre de Nyert (1597-1682), and was active as a singer and singing teacher himself from 1636. Lambert was a patron of influential people, such as the Duke of Orléans and his daughter Mademoiselle de Montpensier, Cardinal Richelieu and the Bishop of Lisieux, and he also moved in the circles of the Marquise de Rambouillet.
In 1640, he married the singer Gabrielle Dupuy. Their daughter became the wife of Jean-Baptiste Lully. After their marriage, Lambert's career was closely linked to that of his sister-in-law, the then famous singer Hilaire Dupuy (1625-1709). From 1656, his reputation as a composer was established and his works appeared regularly in the collections of the music publisher Ballard.
In 1661, he succeeded Jean de Cambefort as music master of the king's chamber (where his son-in-law Lully was the superintendent of music) and he would retain this position until his death. During this period, Lambert was entrusted with training the pages of the royal chapel and directing the rehearsals for the choristers. (source: Wikipedia)[1]
