Flora Papadopoulos is a baroque harpist and teacher.

Biography and career

Flora Papadopoulos is from Athens, where she received her first modern harp lessons from Maria Bildea. She then completed her studies in Italy at the Conservatorio di Parma with Emanuela Degli Esposti. Since 2008 she has dedicated herself to historical harps and completed a master's degree with Mara Galassi at the Civica Scuola di Musica "Claudio Abbado" in Milan. She also holds a BA from the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Parma (Conservation of Musical Heritage) and an MA in Musicology from the Sorbonne in Paris. She taught at the Civica Scuola C. Abbado in Milan until 2018 and has been a lecturer for Renaissance and Baroque harp at the Conservatorio Statale di Musica O. Respighi, Latina (Italy) since 2019. She has been teaching historical harp at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis since autumn semester 22-23. As a harpist, she pursues intensive concert activities and can be heard as a sought-after basso continuo player in numerous concerts and recording projects of the most important early music groups on an international level. She performs regularly as a duo with Mara Galassi and with her own formation "il Caleidoscopio". In 2018 she released her first solo album on CD: "Unwritten". She is also interested in musical projects that go beyond the narrower boundaries of early music.[2]

With Mara Galassi, she has a duo that is mainly dedicated to rediscovering the different harps in circulation in the 18th century. Their disc Davidsharfen was released by Glossa.

With Lathika Vithanage and Noelia Reverte Reche she founded the ensemble Il caleidoscopio specialising in Italian and English 17th century repertoire, with which she recorded a disc around the Harp Consorts of William Lawes (Brilliant Classics 2016).

She is a member of the ensemble Laboratorio '600 founded and directed by Franco Pavan and with Pino de Vittorio, committed to rediscovering the ancient musical tradition of written and oral tradition of southern Italy. With them, she recorded the album Occhi Turchini, songs of an island for Glossa.

In 2018, she released her first solo harp album Unwritten: Bach, Biber, Corelli, Marini, from violin to harp for Arcana. Since 2022, she has been a regular teacher of historical harps at the Schola Cantorum Musik-Akademie in Basel, Switzerland.[1] As of now (2024), she teaches historical harp at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.[2]
